Harvest of Harmony

Marching Bands Galore

Since 1938, high school marching bands have strutted through downtown Grand Island in the Harvest of Harmony parade. The tradition continues on the first Saturday in October when an average of 75 bands march down Third Street. The Grand Island Chamber of Commerce runs the parade, and in 1996 it set a Guinness Book world record for the most marching bands in a parade. That year, 130 bands tooted their own horns before many of them headed to the field competition at Grand Island Senior High School.
