Willa Cather: Voice of the Frontier Opens on Saturday

For over a hundred years no author has so perfectly captured the experience of pioneer life like Nebraska's own Willa Cather. During Stuhr Museum's 2018 Summer Exhibit "Willa Cather: The Voice of the Frontier", we celebrate Cather, her work and the time Stuhr played host to some very special guests celebrating Cather's legacy. The show runs May 19 - September 9 in the Stuhr Building.

The show is divided into two distinct sections. Upstairs in our South Gallery you will find an interesting rumination on Cather's work. Quotes from her writings and paired with historic artifacts from Stuhr Museum's collection creating a rich context and interpretation of her work. From small household items to historic military uniforms to musical instruments to farm tools, every artifact works along with the words to paint a more full picture of Cather's work.

On the first floor in the Dinsdale Gallery we will be feature props and photos from the filmed adaptation of "My Antonia," based on Cather's book, filmed at Stuhr Museum in 1994 which starred Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Robards. This year is the 100th anniversary of "My Antonia's" release and those who remember the production or the film fondly will not want to miss the fun on the first floor.

"Willa Cather: The Voice of the Frontier" will run through September 9 in the Stuhr Building. Regular admission fees apply which are $8 for adults, $6 for children and free for Stuhr Museum members. For more information please call us at (308) 385-5316.
