Free Event on Saturday focuses on Stuhr's Architecture

When the Stuhr Building reopened in the summer of 2015 after 18 months of renovation, it was the culmination of years of work for the architects involved, On Saturday, October 28, on the occasion of several major awards for their work, the architects who restored the "Gem of the Prairie" will speak to the public about the challenges and rewards of renovating our historic structure.

Greg Munn, Senior Associate at BVH Architecture in Lincoln, will present "Historic Modern: The Rehabilitation of the Stuhr Building" on Saturday, October 28 at 2 pm. This event is free and open to the public and will run under an hour.

During the presentation, Munn will discuss the project in terms of the original design of the building, how they approached the renovation project and worked to also meet the needs of the museum. This will be a fascinating talk for anyone who is interested in architecture, construction or the Stuhr Building in particular.

The Stuhr Building has been named one of the winners of the 2017 Modernism in America Awards by Docomomo, an organization dedicated to highlighting the diversity of important modern buildings and sites throughout the United States. BVH Architects out of Lincoln, Nebraska, were given a "Citation of Merit" by Docomomo for their renovation of the Stuhr Building, which reopened in 2015 after 18 months of renovation. They join buildings in Seattle, Boston, Los Angeles and other cities, with only 9 national winners in all.
