Known as the fastest flattest course in the nation, the Pump & Pantry State Fair Marathon has grown into a premier event with over 1,000 runners and counting. This year’s event starts at 6:30am on Saturday, August 26th.
Grand Island YMCA race director, Jeffrey Doose said, “This marathon has all the elements that make marathons must-attends for runners. We have a great course, it’s a Boston Qualifier, and features all the amenities that runners have come to expect at first-class race. A lot of care is taken to create a first class experience for all participants.”
“This race is attracting a lot of national attention with the country’s elite runners—and why not—it’s the perfect race to shave off a little time and improve each runner’s personal best,” Doose said, “We run along tree-lined streets, Grand Island’s hike and bike trails and even around the moat at Stuhr Museum, which gives the participants a pleasant environment in which to run.”
Nebraska State Fair sponsorship director, Shaun Schleif, said, “We were really excited to have Pump & Pantry join us again as the marathon’s major sponsor through 2021. Bosselman’s commitment to community has always been extraordinary, not only in Grand Island but all of Nebraska. Their generosity makes a lot of great things happen.”
Doose, a marathon runner himself, said, “I’ve had the opportunity to run in some of the larger marathons in the nation. I’ve brought a lot of great ideas back and have implemented them into this marathon. All I can say is if someone is on the fence about running – give it a run – and you’ll be back every year.”
Beginning and ending on the Nebraska State Fairgrounds, the day will feature the Pump & Pantry Marathon, Half-Marathon, Relay Marathon, 5K and 1-Mile Kid’s Run. Runners can register at GetMeRegistered.com.
The Nebraska State Fair runs from August 25 to September 4 in Grand Island.
