The Nebraska State Fair collected seven first place awards at the recent convention in Las Vegas of the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE).
State Fair Facilities Director, Jaime Parr said, “All told, we had seven firsts, four second place awards and four third place for a total of 15. Far too much to fit in a suitcase to bring home.” Parr said, “I think our 2016 theme “Grand Champions – Made in Nebraska” helped a lot in our submissions as the common thread among all entries.”
In addition to the seven First Place wins, The Nebraska State Fair earned the “Division Winner” trophy for the Fair’s Education Department’s outreach to local Senior Living Communities. Education Superintendent, Judi Harper created a new division of competition and reached out to Senior Centers to encourage participation from Nebraska Senior Citizen’s who were not already participating in the Fair. This is the best of the best as Judy’s efforts resulted in not only new participants but also competitive exhibit entries at the 2016 Nebraska State Fair.
First place awards in communications include the fair’s creation of a magazine ad, unique advertising specialties, a promotional event and the fair’s mobile app. In competitive entries, the fair took first place honors in new and unique exhibits, use of the “Grand Champions – Made in Nebraska” theme and “Create it on the Spot” which was a construction science themed entry that received a 2nd place award in 2015.
The purpose of this IAFE competition is to improve the advertising and publicity programs of fairs and to provide recognition for fairs doing an outstanding job.
“The awards are just the icing on the cake. The 2016 fair was a great success with over 360,000 in attendance. Our satisfaction numbers are very high, so we’ll continue to try and outdo ourselves year after year to make the state’s largest entertainment event— even better,” Parr said.
The International Association of Fairs and Expositions is based in Springfield, Missouri and is a voluntary, nonprofit corporation serving state, provincial, regional and county agricultural fairs, shows, exhibitions and expositions.
