Now in it’s seventh year, the Nebraska State Fair joins forces with the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce once again for the 2016 Hay Bale Decorating Contest.
State Fair facilities director, Jaime Parr says, “This is a fun way to get our community excited about the state fair. In the past we’ve had individuals, businesses, service organizations and community groups enter the contest to decorate a hay bale for display throughout the community and on the fairgrounds.”
Parr said, “Its something to watch—the competitive spirit that comes out of our teams during the contest. There is a sense of friendly one-upsmanship which is why, I believe, the bales turn out so great from year to year.”
Teams are strongly urged to incorporate the State Fair’s 2016 theme of “Grand Champions Made In Nebraska” into their design. Applications are available online at StateFair.org and GIChamber.com. The deadline for entries back to the Grand Island Chamber is close of business, Friday, July 22nd. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, August 31st, during the fair. All contest details are available online.
Parr said, “This has become a tradition since the fair moved to Grand Island in 2010. It’s all part of the community support we’ve received that is still unfathomable. That same support can be found from Roger Luebbe for the hay bales and Chief Carriers for distributing them around town, Parr said.”
The Nebraska State Fair runs from August 26 to September 5 in Grand Island.
