Wings Over the Platte Opens Friday

GRAND ISLAND, STUHR MUSEUM – Stuhr Museum is proud to welcome Tom Mangelsen and dozens of area artists as the 28th annual Wings Over the Platte art show and sale opens on Friday, February 19th. An opening reception that is free and open to the public will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 18th in the Stuhr Building.

Wings Over the Platte features art inspired by the Platte River and the natural beauty of Nebraska, and no one knows those two subjects, or has had more experience in capturing them, than this year’s featured artist Tom Mangelsen. Over his 40 years of traveling and photographing nature’s many splendors, Mangelsen has captured some of the most indelible images of wildlife, including many images along the Platte River. While his overall catalogue will be represented, Wings Over the Platte will feature several new pieces on display for the first time anywhere.

In addition to Mangelsen’s work on the main floor, the South Gallery upstairs will feature some fantastic artwork in a variety of styles and media. From photography to sculpture, realism to abstract and more, this year’s Wings Over the Platte features some truly stunning pieces and is worth the trip for both nature enthusiasts, art enthusiasts and everyone in between. This show also features a strong showing from local and regional artists.

The opening reception on Thursday, February 18th will feature refreshments and a sneak preview of this fantastic show. It’s free and open to the public. Wings Over the Platte officially opens on Friday, February 19th and runs through April 10th and is on display from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and Noon – 5 p.m. on Sundays. Stuhr is closed on Mondays in February and March. Regular admission fees apply. For more information, contact the museum at (308) 385-5316 or log onto
