GRAND ISLAND, NE – For a third straight season, the Nebraska Danger have earned a spot in the Intense Conference Championship game. The Danger will host the Tri-Cities Fever Friday night with kickoff at 7 PM at the Heartland Events Center. The winner of the game will face the United Conference champion in the United Bowl on the weekend of July 11th.
The Nebraska Danger finished the season with a 10-4 record for a third straight year, while the Fever come to Grand Island as the #2 seed with an 8-6 record. The two teams faced each other on April 3rd as the Fever pulled out a tight 67-59 win over the Danger in Washington.
The Fever will be starting a different quarterback compared to their first meeting this year. Veteran QB, Houston Lillard, went down with a season-ending injury in the game immediately following the victory over the Danger. On Tuesday, the Fever signed Dante Perez, the IFL’s Week 9 Offensive Player of the Week from during his time with the Bemidji Axemen. Perez joins quarterback Dominique Blackbom who has thrown for 426 yards in 5 games for the Fever.
“Losing Lillard was a big hit for the Fever,” Danger coach Mike Davis said. “The two quarterbacks they have now are both very good and Coach Shackleford is a veteran of the game and knows how to get a team prepared for a playoff game. This should be a great game.”
The Danger were able to clinch a spot in the championship game with one game remaining in the season. Coach Davis took advantage of the opportunity and held Jameel Sewell out of the final game to rest before the playoff.
“We were really fortunate to be able to rest Jameel and a few other guys during our final game and then during the bye week that followed,” Davis said. “We should be just about as healthy as we could have hoped for at this point in the season.”
With both of the teams near the top of the IFL in numerous statistical categories, this is shaping up to be a heavyweight bout. The two teams have combined to win the past 4 straight Intense Conference Championships.
Kickoff is set for 7 pm Friday night at the Heartland Events Center. Doors open at 6:00 with pre-game activities beginning at 6:30.
Tickets are available at area Pump & Pantry stores, the Heartland Events Center Box Office, or via Ticketmaster. The game will be broadcast live on 2DayFM 103.1, or streamed live at www.2dayfm1031.com
