State Fair Marshall Volleyball Classic Fills with Teams

The Bill Marshall Volleyball Classic at the Nebraska State Fair has filled and the tournament is set for August 26 and 27 at the Heartland Events Center.

State Fair events and entertainment director, Chelsey Jungck said, “The response was beyond our wildest dreams. Year one of any event is an unknown—but we are ready to go with a total of 25 high school teams and four National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) College Volleyball teams.”

Two courts will be set in the Heartland Events Center, one for high school matches and one for collegiate games. The high school’s will participate in the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame Jamboree Games and features schools from throughout the state.

Grand Island Senior High’s Cindy Wells, part of the planning committee putting the classic together said, “We will have teams from the most urban to some of the most rural areas in our state. Teams from Omaha—teams from the Sandhills, and all will come together to play at the State Fair for this two-day event.”

Jungck said, “Hastings College handled the organization of the NAIA games. One of the collegiate teams is coming all the way from La Mirada, California to participate in the tournament. It’s a great way for these teams to work on their game going into the fall season.”

Planning committee member, Diane Rouzee from Grand Island Northwest said, “For the volleyball fan, this is an event worth seeing. This will be two days of non-stop action from some of the better volleyball teams from around the state. Who can pass it up—a great volleyball tournament with the added benefit of getting to attend the State Fair.”
