Award-winning photographers working with Nebraska Tourism Commission

Nebraska Tourism Commission Director, Kathy McKillip commented, “We are very excited to have two really fantastic photographers and videographers working with us to capture some of the most unique and special moments a visitor might experience while traveling in Nebraska. Their work will be used in the Visit Nebraska. Visit Nice. campaign materials that will be coming out over the next couple of months.”

The two photographers/videographers who are working with Nebraska Tourism are Bill Frakes and Andy Anderson. Frakes will be in Western Nebraska during the first part of June capturing images at the Annual Crazy Horse Ride, Toadstool Geologic Park, Chimney Rock and other Nebraska events and attractions.

Bill Frakes, a western Nebraska native, has worked with clients including Apple, Nike, Nikon and Reebok. When asked why he was interested in working on the Nebraska Tourism project, Frakes exclaimed, “I've traveled to 137 countries, every US state, and I can promise you there is no place like Nebraska. I love being home.”

Frakes’ mother Agnes helped peak her son’s interest in photography by pointing out images all around her tiny Nebraska town to her young son: a cat’s shadow, a pool of oil beneath a car, his own name etched in a cookie tray of caramel popcorn. When he looked at the objects he told his mother he saw nothing. She said, “Look again. There is always more there than what your eye see.”

Frakes directs documentaries, music videos and television ads as well as editorial work appearing in virtually every major general interest publication in the world. He is currently on the masthead of Sports Illustrated. Frakes has received hundreds of national and international awards for his work, including the coveted Newspaper Photographer of the Year award in the Pictures of the Year competition. He was also a member of the Miami Herald staff that won the Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of Hurricane Andrew. To see samples of Frakes’ work, visit

Andy Anderson is another very well-known and award winning photographer working on the State’s new tourism campaign. Anderson has already been to Nebraska to shoot images for the Tourism Commission’s newest ads and commercials, and will also be back several more times within upcoming months to capture more seasonal images. Anderson has a passion for capturing special moments, beautiful places and interesting people. Many of Andy’s photos were used in the emotionally charged Official Ram Trucks Super Bowl Commercial “Farmer” which can be viewed at Examples of his travel photos can be found at
