State Cheer & Dance Tournament kicks back in to Grand Island
Posted on 02/13/2014
The 2014 Nebraska State Cheer & Dance Championships will be held on February 21 & 22 at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island. Roughly 1,700 registrants from high schools across Nebraska will come to Grand Island for this year’s competition.
This event has been held at the Heartland Events center since its creation in 2008. Cheer and dance teams compete in a variety of events such as floor exercises, jazz dances and hip hop dances.
“2014 marks the seventh year for the championships, and the event just gets more impressive each year. We appreciate the continued support of the Grand Island community, Heartland Events Center, the volunteers, the business community and the convention and visitors bureau. They all just step up and embrace this event. Now we’re just hoping for some great weather and competition,” said Darin Boysin, Executive Director of the Nebraska Coaches Association who produces the event.
Friday night performances include a number of Grand Island area cheer and dance groups. Student-athletes enjoy a top-notch state championship experience, and the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame reaps the benefit; 80% of the revenue from the championships going to the recently opened Hall of Fame.
