GRAND ISLAND, NEB. (Aug. 10, 2016) –When The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra hits the stage of the Grand Island Liederkranz ballroom on Monday, Aug. 15, Nebraskans will have the unique opportunity to swing around the dance floor to the orchestra’s iconic Big Band sound.
At concerts around the world, the Glenn Miller Orchestra performs for thousands. Few of their venues, however, allow for dancing.
“We really like the fact that we have a unique environment, in which our patrons can dance to the music,” says Angie Liske, the arts committee chair of the Liederkranz. “We are excited to host the Glenn Miller Orchestra and hope people in the surrounding area come to enjoy this legendary group with us.”
Grand Island native Ron Mills is the full-time pianist for the 18-person ensemble. For the Liederkranz dance-concert, his brother Bobby Mills, also of Grand Island, will be joining the group on drums.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra celebrates 60 consecutive years on the road this year. Monday’s program will include many of the original Miller arrangements that made the band famous in the 1930s and 1940s, such as The Moonlight Serenade and In the Mood.
The Liederkranz doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the three-hour dance concert, 7 to 10 p.m.
Members of the public can purchase tickets in advance for $17.50 each at the Ace Hardware, 1704 West 3rd Street in Grand Island. Tickets at the door will be $5 more. Liederkranz members can get discounted tickets until Saturday, Aug. 13, at the club.
